Spotify Marquee vs Meta Ads for Music
- →Marquee is a Spotify mobile pop-up for new releases. Showcase is a Home banner for new and catalog releases.
- →Spotify display campaigns are priced by clicks and have eligibility, budget, market, and format rules.
- →Social ads to a smartlink let you test creative and optimize for the tracked DSP click-out.
- →The clean comparison is not streams promised. It is which buying job fits the release.
They buy different moments
Spotify display campaigns buy attention inside Spotify while people are choosing what to play. Spotify's own support docs describe Marquee as a full-screen mobile pop-up and Showcase as a banner on Spotify Home.
Social ads buy attention before the listener reaches Spotify. The ad sends them to a landing page, and the clean conversion is the click-out from that page to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, or another DSP.
- Spotify campaign: inside Spotify, aimed at likely listeners.
- Social campaign: outside Spotify, aimed at people who take the page action.
- Smartlink conversion: tracked DSP click-out, not a stream.
What Marquee and Showcase are built for
Spotify says Marquee is for new releases only and runs for up to 10 days after the campaign starts or until the budget is spent. Showcase can promote new and catalog releases and runs for up to 14 days or until the budget is spent.
There are also access rules. Spotify's support docs say display campaigns require at least 1,000 streams over the last 28 days in at least one target market, and Marquee also needs at least 5,000 monthly active listeners in the selected target market.
- Use Marquee when the release is new and eligible.
- Use Showcase when catalog or Home placement is the better job.
- Check the target market before planning the budget.
- Expect Spotify to forecast, not guarantee, delivery.
What social ads to a smartlink are built for
A social campaign gives you more control over creative testing. You can test song sections, edits, hooks, placements, country mixes, and audiences, then judge the campaign by cost per result.
For music, the result should usually be the DSP click-out. The pixel sends the browser event, CAPI sends the server event, and a shared event ID lets Meta dedupe the pair.
- Good for testing multiple clips before scaling.
- Good for sending fans to more than one DSP.
- Good when you need cost per click-out as the optimization signal.
- Weak if the event is a page view or raw ad click.
How I would read the budget
Spotify display campaign docs say campaigns are priced on a cost-per-click basis, with a budget range that starts at $100 for self-serve display campaigns. Spotify also says the forecast is an estimate and that full budget delivery is not guaranteed.
For a social campaign, I plan from expected cost per conversion. If you spend $300 and expect 30 cents per click-out, you are planning around about 1,000 tracked DSP click-outs before real-world waste changes the number.
How to choose
If your goal is to put an eligible release in front of likely Spotify listeners inside the app, Marquee or Showcase can be the cleaner buy. You are paying for Spotify's placement and audience model.
If your goal is to test creative, reach listeners across social placements, route to multiple DSPs, and train Ads Manager on a click-out event, use paid social to a tracked page. I would not call either one better without naming the job first.
- New release with Spotify eligibility: consider Marquee.
- Catalog or Home placement: consider Showcase.
- Creative testing and multi-DSP routing: use paid social to a smartlink.
- Attribution discipline: keep Spotify clicks, smartlink click-outs, and streams separate.
Check the conversion number
Once the campaign is optimizing for the smartlink click-out, grade the result against a realistic cost-per-conversion range before you scale.
Grade your cost per conversion→Frequently asked
Is Spotify Marquee better than Meta ads?
Not automatically. Marquee buys placement inside Spotify for eligible new releases. Social ads buy traffic that you can route through a smartlink and optimize toward a tracked click-out.
Can I use Showcase for old music?
Spotify's support docs say Showcase can be used for new and catalog releases, while Marquee is for new releases only.
Can I compare Spotify campaign clicks to Meta conversions?
Only with context. The ad conversion should be the tracked click-out from the smartlink to a DSP. Spotify campaign clicks happen inside Spotify's campaign system.
Which one should a small artist test first?
If you are not eligible for Spotify display campaigns, paid social to a smartlink is the practical starting point. If you are eligible, test the channel that matches the release goal and budget.
